Fall Festival

Case Study: Event Branding & Accessibility Design

Fall Festival Logo

As a marketing & graphic design intern for Santa Clara County Parks in 2024, I had the opportunity to redesign and brand one of their biggest events – Fall Festival. I created the event logo, flyers, event map, a sensory map, event banner, and various signs. Working with a team at parks over the course of two fall festivals, and now as part of their staff, the event branding has become more consistent and more accessible.

Event Flyers, Banner, & Maps

Drawing from the host park’s logo, the design is meant to focus on the agricultural legacy of the valley. Below is the front and back of the 2024 event flyer, event banner, and event map. The back of the flyer has event information translated into Spanish and Vietnamese:

For Fall Festival 2025, I incorporated part of the 10 year logo I designed for the park since it was an anniversary year:

The final flyer was edited by the parks communication team to meet the needs of the supervisor who sponsored the event and was slightly different than my final draft seen above. Below is an example of a social media post I put together to help share the group bike ride I helped coordinate with local group San Jose Bike Party:

I worked with the Language Access Unit through Santa Clara County to get maps and some signs translated into Spanish and Vietnamese to make the content accessible to as many folks as possible. These were used on the park website and were printed for the event.

Flip through the image below to see the different maps I made for the event, including a Sensory Map and area close-ups. Below that are two examples of translated versions:

Event Accessibility Designs

For the 2025 event we added a few new features including a Quiet Zone, Sensory Bags, and translated interpretive signs for our historic vehicle display. I worked closely on the logistics of these projects and created (or adapted) all designs for the event.

And my favorite interpretive sign I got to make in 2025, featuring old photos of cats:

Reflection

I’ve enjoyed being a part of the Martial Cottle Park team and helping make Fall Festival a huge success and fun, family-friendly event. We had over 10,000 people attend both years and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback from co-workers, friends, and community members. In 2025, I took on more planning and coordinating and made even more internal maps and various documents that aren’t on this page. I strive to be an effective communicator and enjoy creating engaging visuals and maps to help with that.

This survey sign I made was posted around the event for 2024 and 2025 to collect feedback from the community.

Overall, it’s a great community event that most people seem to really enjoy. Part of my job is to help go through the feedback and add to our notes what we can improve on for next year.
